Activity of Lygus lineolaris (Heteroptera: Miridae) adults monitored around the periphery and inside a commercial vineyard

Abstract: Abstract. The tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Heteroptera: Miridae), is a highly polyphagous pest that feeds on a broad range of economically important crops in North America. Flying L. lineolaris adults can move from crop to crop rapidly and easily. Little is known about the movement of L. lineolaris in or near vineyards. From May to October 2002 and 2003, 39 white sticky traps were positioned inside and at the periphery of a vineyard to study the movements of tarnished plant bug adults. Tarnished plan… Show more

“…A significant amount of research was conducted at the request of growers on the tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) (Hemiptera: Miridae), a highly polyphagous pest thought to cause appreciable damage at the beginning of the season. Feeding behaviour of nymphs and adults and resulting damage to the vine (Fleury et al 2003(Fleury et al , 2006 was researched, as well as movement of adults within and at the edge of vineyards (Fleury et al 2010). Toxicological studies were conducted to assess the lethality of insecticides against nymphs and adults of the tarnished plant bug (Fleury et al 2007).…”

“…As Dietrich-Jooss vineyard phased out its operations in 2004, we focused our research efforts on the l'Orpailleur vineyard. As the Quebec viticultural industry developed and the research studies unfolded, specific arthropod issues, such as the tarnished plant bug (Lygus lineolaris-Miridae), were addressed on an ad hoc basis [32,33]. L. lineolaris feeds on ca.…”
