Εξάλλου έρευνα που πραγµατοποιήθηκε στην Αµερική µε τυχαία δείγµατα, διαπίστωσε ότι τουλάχιστον το 19% των ανηλίκων γυναικών που έχουν κάνει άµβλωση υποφέρει από διαγνωσµένη µετατραυµατική αγχώδη διαταραχή252 . Περίπου οι µισές εµφάνιζαν πολλά από τα συµπτώµατα της ψυχικής αυτής νόσου, ενώ 20 ως και 40% εµφάνιζε µέτρια ως και υψηλά επίπεδα άγχους.Το γεγονός ότι πολλοί ερευνητές αναφέρουν ότι οι ανήλικες κατά την διάρκεια της επέµβασης νοιώθουν δυνατότερους πόνους από ό,τι γυναίκες µεγαλύτερης ηλικίας, αποδίδεται στα υψηλότερα επίπεδα άγχους και φόβου που νοιώθουν οι ανήλικες πριν την άµβλωση.…”
