Purpose Conduct a systematic review of case reports and case series regarding the development of acute abdomen following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination, to describe the possible association and the clinical and demographic characteristics in detail. Materials and Methods This study included case report studies and case series that focused on the development of acute abdomen following COVID-19 vaccination. Systematic review studies, literature, letters to the editor, brief comments, and so forth were excluded. PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases were searched until June 15, 2023. The Joanna Briggs Institute tool was used to assess the risk of bias and the quality of the study. Descriptive data were presented as frequency, median, mean, and standard deviation. Results Seventeen clinical case studies were identified, evaluating 17 patients with acute abdomen associated with COVID-19 vaccination, which included acute appendicitis (n=3), acute pancreatitis (n=9), diverticulitis (n=1), cholecystitis (n=2), and colitis (n=2). The COVID-19 vaccine most commonly linked to acute abdomen was Pfizer-BioNTech (messenger RNA), accounting for 64.71% of cases. Acute abdomen predominantly occurred after the first vaccine dose (52.94%). All patients responded objectively to medical (88.34%) and surgical (11.76%) treatment and were discharged within a few weeks. No cases of death were reported. Conclusion Acute abdomen is a rare complication of great interest in the medical and surgical practice of COVID-19 vaccination. Our study is based on a small sample of patients; therefore, it is recommended to conduct future observational studies to fully elucidate the underlying mechanisms of this association.

Background and objective Heart rhythm disorder is one of the most common problems after coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Various factors, such as the history of sleep apnoea before the operation, may aggravate the occurrence of this disorder. The present study was conducted to determine the relationship between sleep apnoea before surgery and heart rhythm disorder after surgery in patients undergoing coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in 2019. Methods This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on 192 patients who were selected by sequential sampling. The research tool included demographic information, a checklist of heart rhythm disorders, and the Berlin sleep apnoea questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, Mann–Whitney’s U-test, and logistic regression were used to analyze the data. Results A total of 71.35% of the samples were male, and the mean age of the participants was 57.8 ± 7.5 years. Also, 46.0% of the samples had sleep pane and 21.35% had rhythm disorder. The most frequent heart rhythm disorder in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea was atrial fibrillation. There was a significant relationship between the occurrence of rhythm disorder and a history of smoking (P = 0.021), and the regression model showed that a history of smoking is the only variable related to the occurrence of rhythm disorder after coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (P = 0.005, CI 95%: 6.566–1.386, OR = 3.017). Conclusions The results showed that there is no statistically significant relationship between sleep apnea and rhythm disorder after coronary artery bypass surgery.

Diverticulitis is a significant contributor to the number of hospital admissions and healthcare costs in Western societies. The authors present the case of an otherwise healthy 33-year-old Hispanic male presenting to the emergency department with complaints of abdominal pain, pneumaturia, and hematochezia. The patient had no underlying risk factors, substantial prior medical history, or typical symptoms of diverticulitis. He was diagnosed with acute diverticulitis with a presumed colovesical fistula. The unique clinical presentation and the intraoperative findings are discussed. The objective of this case report is to make clinicians aware of atypical presentations of acute diverticulitis and guide the appropriate diagnostic workup for young Hispanic males presenting to the emergency departments with complaints of abdominal pain.
