Acute Kidney Injury in Adult Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma After TACE or Hepatectomy Treatment

Abstract: BackgroundAcute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the most common complications in patients with cancer, yet the specific reasons, mechanisms, and the influence of AKI are not clear in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after treatment. This meta-analysis aimed to find out the risk factors and the impact on mortality of AKI in adult patients with HCC after treatment using available published data.MethodsWe performed a systemic literature search using PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase, encompassing publications up unt… Show more

“…High pre-treatment albumin/bilirubin grade and aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet index are associated with poorer outcomes [ 79 , 80 ]. Age, diabetes mellitus (DM), and the number of TACE sessions are risk factors for acute kidney injury—which increases mortality 4.74-fold—in patients with HCC after TACE [ 81 ]. Recently, an albumin-based algorithm was proposed [ 82 ].…”

“…Several meta-analyses reveal benefits of combined therapy TACE plus local therapies without evidence of increase in complications rate related to local therapies. [122][123][124][125][126][127][128][129][130][131] Two clinical trials examined TACE plus microwave or radiofrequency ablation. The first was performed by Sheta et al 87 including 50 patients with Child-Pugh A-B disease and tumor lesion >4 cm confined to one hepatic lobe.…”
