Acute Myocardial Injury of Patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019

Abstract: Background: Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) inChina, respiratory manifestations of the disease have been observed. However, as a fatal comorbidity, acute myocardial injury (AMI) in COVID-19 patients has not been previously investigated in detail. We investigated the clinical characteristics of COVID-19 patients with AMI and determined the risk factors for AMI in them. Methods:We analyzed data from 53 consecutive laboratory-confirmed and hospitalized COVID-19 patients (28 men, 25 w… Show more

“…In colon cancer cell lines and mouse colon tissue, 1,25D inhibited the Wnt pathway by decreased nuclear β-catenin and increased cellular differentiation (Aguilera et al, 2007;Groschel et al, 2016;Larriba et al, 2013). Similar results of β-catenin by vitamin D metabolites were observed in Kaposi's sarcoma (Tapia et al, 2020) and renal cell carcinoma (Xu et al, 2020).…”

“…Interest has also focused on the possibility of ethnic differences in the the expression of angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (the host receptor for SARS-CoV-2),12 and risk of both acute kidney injury13 and cardiac complications14 because of a higher prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in ethnic minority populations.…”

“…The virus not only infects the epithelial cells, but also the resident, infiltrating, and circulating immune cells. The infected circulating immune cells carry the virus to other organs causing the extrapulmonary symptoms, including fever, myalgia, fatigue and kidney dysfunctions [35], acute myocardial injury [36], CNS and PNS symptoms [5] and maybe gastrointestinal symptoms. It is possible that other pathways exist for the virus to infect CNS, such as the viral RNA in the plasma directly infect the endothelial cells of the BBB with an unknown mechanism [37].…”
