“…Fung et al. demonstrated that e′ was increased 1 month after EC . In another study, e′ decreased from 7.7 ± 1.9 cm/s (baseline) to 5.8 ± 1.4 cm/s (1 month) after catheter ablation in AF patients .…”
We demonstrated that e' was significantly higher in AF compared with during sinus rhythm in the same patients. Thus, in AF patients, diastolic dysfunction should be suspected even when e' values are normal.

“…However, mitral annular velocity has been used for assessing the left ventricular function after electrical cardioversion of AF [25,26]. Acute left ventricular dysfunction or acute pulmonary edema may be rarely observed after cardioversion of AF.…”
“…Measurements could be taken in earlier periods and more frequently after ECV. This might be important in order to evaluate transient LV systolic and diastolic dysfunction as mentioned in previous studies 19,20 . Second, AF recurrences were observed in 15 patients within 1 month of follow‐up after the restoration of sinus rhythm with successful ECV and these patients were excluded from the study.…”

“…Unfortunately, few studies existed in the literature about TDI after successful ECV in patients with persistent AF. Fung et al 19 performed a study after successful ECV with 40 consecutive persistent AF patients (AF duration 4.6 ± 5.6 months) and measured TDI parameters before, 4 hours after and 3–6 weeks after ECV. Four hours after ECV, there was no change in EF, but significant decrease was observed in Sm of LV segments and mitral annulus according to basal values.…”

“…But there are some differences between our study and two of the studies mentioned before. Fung et al 19 assessed only systolic function after ECV in patients with persistent AF but LV diastolic function was not evaluated. In Yu et al's study, 20 10 patients with paroxysmal AF after a mean AF duration 8.8 days, had been included in the research.…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
