Abstract:Despite a decreased incidence and severity of acute rejections in 1998, compared with the previous years, acute rejection still remains a powerful risk factor for late transplant failure.

“…However, acute graft rejection (AGR) is still considered to be a major factor influencing short-and long-term allograft survival (1,2). Rational immunosuppressive therapy (3) is another known posttransplantation issue.…”

“…Immunologic factors include T-and B-cell recognition of alloantigens, cytomegalovirus infection, and endothelial cell activation followed by vascular smooth cell proliferation. The best evidence in support of the role of alloantigen-dependent factors in the development of chronic allograft dysfunction is the observation that its incidence increases after episodes of acute rejection, accompanied by inadequate immunosuppression and with increased human leukocyte antigen mismatching [3,4].…”

Our results show strong independent relationships between high blood pressure, urine protein excretion, and the relative risk of chronic progression of renal failure, as described for native kidney disease. These factors are potentially modifiable and are therefore attractive targets for therapeutic targets.
“…In spite of improving of immunosuppressive drugs, the rate of acute rejection is still about 15-20% (Ganji and Broumand, 2007;Pallardó Mateu et al, 2004).…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
