Adaptation of Forest Trees to Rapidly Changing Climate

Abstract: Climate change leads to global drought-induced stress and increased plant mortality. Tree species living in rapidly changing climate conditions are exposed to danger and must adapt to new climate conditions to survive. Trees respond to changes in the environment in numerous ways. Physiological modulation at the seed stage, germination strategy and further development are influenced by many different factors. We review forest abiotic threats (such as drought and heat), including biochemical responses of plants … Show more

“…Throughout their long lives, trees are exposed to various kinds of stress (Kijowska-Oberc et al 2020). It may be caused by unfavorable external conditions, such as water shortage, extreme temperatures, strong salinity or too high levels of toxic metals (Siripornadulsil et al 2002).…”

“…Fruit orchards use various mechanisms to adapt to abiotic stresses based on different responses such as Morphological Adaptations, physiological Adaptations, and anatomy Adaptations, which in turn, lead to changes in plant metabolism to minimize stress-induced damage, 4 furthermore, in order to face combinations of various stresses like drought and heat stress, plants specifically alter gene expression in a very different way than changes occurring in plants grown under single stress, in addition, modify management practices during growth seasons could enhance tree tolerance for various abiotic stresses. 5,6 This work aims to discuss the main abiotic factors that affect fruit orchards' productivity and strategies used to adapt to stress conditions to improve growth and sustain the productivity of fruit orchards.…”

“…The growth and survival of trees at specific sites or regions depend on their adaptive capacity and plasticity (Kijowska-Oberc et al 2020). Population-specific responses to climate and other factors are usually examined in common Communicated by Christian Ammer.…”
