“…Regarding the reliability of the measures, the percentage of studies reporting at least acceptable levels of internal consistency was high and similar between the three questionnaires (i.e., 75% of studies for the MEQ-CA and 76% for both the MESC and CSM). Evidence for test-retest reliability assessed through correlation analyses is scant, since only 3 studies [4,38,46] on 50 included in the review reported such value; it was at least acceptable for the MESC [38,46], not acceptable for the MEQ-CA [4] and not available for the CSM. The data on test-retest reliability assessed through correlation analyses should be cautiously interpreted because the time interval between administrations of the questionnaires for the MESC (1 month) was shorter compared to that for the MEQ-CA (6 months) and thus they are hardly comparable.…”

“…As shown in Table 1 and Supplementary Table 2, the psychometric properties of the MESC have been reported in studies based on American, Australian, Croatian, Dutch, Hong Kong-Chinese, Israeli, Italian, Spanish, Taiwanese and Turkish samples. Of the 25 studies that reported Cronbach's alpha values, five presented scores of ≥ 0.80 [23,24,27,49,83], fourteen studies reported values between 0.70 and 0.79 [3,17,18,20,21,25,26,31,38,42,43,48,51,78], while six showed values < 0.70 [8,16,28,29,40,46].…”

“…The MESC, originating in Carskadon et al [43], was adapted from the Composite Scale of Morningness [44] to children and adolescents and was recommended by Tonetti et al [45] as a scale for assessing morningness-eveningness in children and adolescents. The MESC is a unidimensional scale [43,45], has been widely used since 1992 and is available in Brazilian, Italian, Croatian, Turkish, Spanish, American and Australian English [45][46][47][48][49]. It was applied in large samples (N = 345-1393) and in a broad age range (12-20 years), with an internal consistency ranging from 0.68-0.77 and a test-retest reliability between 0.53-0.59 (see Tonetti et al [45] for details).…”
