Adaptive Learning Spaces with Context-Awareness

Abstract: This paper introduces the concept of learning space in the digital age and considers the various contexts in which learning occurs. In addition, the paper discusses issues about the modelling of a context-aware learning space ontology. The paper is based on an ongoing collaborative research, which focuses on the interface of learning space and context-aware learning. The long-term goal of this project is to introduce the notion of learning space and explore the role of the design of learning space context-awar… Show more

“…However, little research has examined student choices of physical learning spaces for SOL in higher education (Lamb et al, 2022). As an important part of the instructional design, the physical learning space is a key component of the learning environment, which defines the social and cognitive features of the learning environment (Psyché et al, 2019). The few studies that have investigated student choices of course modalities have been critiqued as being typically small-scale, focusing on single disciplines and not having considered latent psychological factors sufficiently (McPartlan et al, 2021;O'Neill et al, 2021).…”

“…This concept of learning space does not in a modern view only refer to the physical environment (classroom or online, e.g. ), but learning spaces also differ as cognitive and social environments (Psyché, Daniel and Bourdeau, 2019). Different stakeholders process bring into education their specific contextual variables.…”
