Adaptive Over-Current Relay Coordination Based on Multi-Agent System : A Case Study on Transmission Line Outage

Abstract: This paper presents a conceptual design of multiagent for adaptive over-current relay coordination. In some temporary circumstances e.g. line outage, connecting a new or existing generator, etc., may lead to mal-operation of precoordinated protective devices in power systems. The set of protective relays must be enhanced with ability of adaptation in such a way that their parameter setting is adjusted. The multi-agent system proposed here is to develop optimal relay coordination adaptively according to environ… Show more

“…In terms of scheme based on multi-agent system, if short-circuit fault takes place somewhere in the system, the agents along the fault-disrupted line immediately start to detect the features of the fault, afterwards, multiple criteria agents carry out various parameter measurements, and a final rational action scheme will come out after the consultation among individual agent in the environment. Multi-agent system will send the information of 'refusal of circuit breaker action' by remote communication and trigger the immediate action of the breaker at upper level to cut off the fault as soon as possible, lessen the action time and improve reliability [6]. The conventional and multi-agent system-based modules are shown in Fig.…”

“…Under the above-mentioned circumstance, MAS-based strategy will send the "circuit-breaker action refusal" information by remote communication and trigger the immediate movement of the breaker at upper level as soon as possible. In this way, the action time is lessened and the reliable operation of the system is assured [4] [5].…”
