Additional periarticular catheter shows no superiority over single-shot local infiltration analgesia alone in unicondylar knee replacement

“…Other potential reasons why a treatment effect was not seen with liposomal bupivacaine may relate to the source of pain as well as the pharmacokinetics of liposomal bupivacaine in knee replacement. Several studies have investigated the roles of continuous intra-articular infiltration after knee replacement. Although these studies appear to provide improved pain control, compared with single-shot local anesthetic infiltration, it must be noted that the pain scores remain above 0 and typically range from 2 to 4 of 10 from 12 to 72 hours after surgery, indicating that not all pain can be targeted by intra-articular local anesthetic injection.…”
