Additively manufactured nano-mechanical energy harvesting systems: advancements, potential applications, challenges and future perspectives

Abstract: Additively manufactured nano-MEH systems are widely used to harvest energy from renewable and sustainable energy sources such as wind, ocean, sunlight, raindrops, and ambient vibrations. A comprehensive study focusing on in-depth technology evolution, applications, problems, and future trends of specifically 3D printed nano-MEH systems with an energy point of view is rarely conducted. Therefore, this paper looks into the state-of-the-art technologies, energy harvesting sources/methods, performance, implementat… Show more

“…Thus, 40 mm/s was taken as level 1, 50 mm/s as level 2, and 60 mm/s as level 3. However, there was a negligible change in Ra-PA-6 and Rq-PA-6 because of the open-air printer as the air quickly wraps up and forms defects in layers [ 68 ].…”

“…Remaining C, which functions as a defect, can restrict crystal development. For upcoming ultra-low-power transistors and ultra-high-density memory, the development of Al-doped HfO 2 capacitors with the maximum permittivity [ 67 ] is a promising candidate.

“…So even in the ultrasonic and infrared spectrums, the sensor utilizing the MPB can be used with high sensitivity piezoelectric pressure and temperature sensors. It can therefore be used to create user-friendly interfaces, energy harvesters, electronic skins for robots, healthcare applications, and next-generation display technology that mimics nature's tactile perception [66][67][68][69][70].…”

“…Integration of the exceptional wave-manipulating properties of phononic crystals (PnCs) with piezoelectric energy harvesting (PEH) systems has led to the enhancement of output electric power through the amplification of the input elastic-wave energy provided to piezoelectric devices [ 1 4 ]. The promising PEH technology converts ambient mechanical energy into usable electric energy owing to the direct piezoelectric effect [ 5 8 ].…”
