“…There are rare reports of WT detected in minor salivary glands of the buccal mucosa, hard palate, lip and oropharynx. Thus, WT arising from minor salivary glands is extremely rare, with a reported incidence of only 0.1%‐1.2% . WT can also be found in intra‐ and periparotid lymph nodes and rarely in cervical lymph nodes and in other locations such as the larynx or thyroid gland .…”

“…Rarely, Warthin's tumours have been reported arising in the submandibular gland (Kukreja and Jain, 1971), upper and lower lips (Peruzzo, 1952;Veronesi and Corbetta, 1960), buccal mucosa (Hart and Andrews, 1968;Baden et al, 1976;Friedlander and Thorn, 1977;Kerpel etal, 1978;Friedmann, 1986), palate (Hendrick, 1964;Fantasia and Miller, 1981), oropharynx (Stout, 1946;Vellios and Shafer, 1959;Singh, 1966) nasopharyngeal space (Friedmann, 1953), nasal cavity (Struthers et al, 1954;Rauch et al, 1970), maxillary sinus (Struthers et al, 1954), larynx (M0ller and 0rntoft, 1965;Steglich-Petersen, 1966;Donald and Krause, 1973;Foulsham et al, 1981), lacrimal (Rauch et al, 1970) and sweat glands (Bergholz et al, 1980). The histogenesis of both parotid and extraparotid types of Warthin's tumour is still controversial (Baden etal, 1976;Batsakis and Regezi, 1978;Batsakis, 1979;Shugar et al, 1982;Chapnik, 1983).…”

“…However, reports of distant EPWT occurring in unusual sites such as the nasal pharynx, larynx, 9 sinuses, and lacrimal duct tax this embryogenetic theory. Even Warthin's tumor originating within the submandibular glands 10 presents a problem because it is known that these salivary glands encapsulate early and lack the lymphoid elements that are present within the developed parotid glands. In essence, evidence supports the existence of EPWT in periparotid adjacent areas such as the neck, but it is important to consider reports of EPWT in other sites as controversial.…”
