Abstract:Brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenic activity is tightly regulated by cellular redox status but the molecular mechanisms underlying this regulation are incompletely understood. Protein S-nitrosylation, the nitric oxide-mediated cysteine thiol modification of proteins, plays important roles in cellular redox regulation. Here we show that both diet-induced obesity (DIO) and acute cold exposure elevates protein S-nitrosylation of BAT proteins, including UCP1, to regulate thermogenesis. This effect in BAT is reg… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
