Adhesion strength and viscoelastic properties of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based elastomeric nanocomposites with embedded electrospun nanofibers

Abstract: In the present study, the adhesive and viscoelastic properties of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based nanocomposite pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) with embedded electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofibers as fillers were investigated.

“…Interfacial adhesion strength is a vital property for the robustness of the coating. Generally, materials with low surface energy, such as PDMS and fluorine-containing polymer, show poor adhesion strength to the substrate. , In this work, since the chemical compatibility of silica and PDMS is poor, solidification-induced phase separation will occur. In addition, the low-surface-tension characteristic of PDMS is favorable to its surface migration tendency, and the formation of rigid silica from PHPS may also have a “squeezing” effect on the linear PDMS chain .…”

“…However, the strategies reported here are much more general and can be applied to different tapes (materials, thicknesses, adhesives, etc. ), metals, elastomers, and nonadhesive substrates, including possible modifications for tuning their properties. , In our preliminary tests, we manually peeled 50 μm PDMS devices from their PMMA carriers without any functional issues. However, clearly, any automatized method for releasing elastomer devices from their carriers with controlled velocities or forces or peeling angles can be applied to double-framed devices, which may be especially useful in case of much more fragile ( e.g ., significantly thinner) devices.…”

“…Considering application circumstances, besides heat dissipation, adhesion is an important property as well. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as one of the most developed siloxane polymers is optimal for cooling coatings because of the excellent waterproof properties, adhesive properties, nontoxicity, and easy modeling capacity. The composites of PDMS, graphene, and h -BN are believed to be ideal for high thermal radiation and thermal conductivity coating systems.…”
