Adhesive properties onto galvanized steel plates of grafted poly(vinylidene fluoride) powders with phosphonated acrylates

Abstract: Hydrophilic fluoropolymers were obtained by grafting phosphonated monomers onto activated poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF). By using an ozonization technique, dialkylperoxide and hydroperoxide groups were formed onto PVDF which may be decomposed thermally in a subsequent step to initiate graft copolymerization. By using an iodometric titration technique, the effect of ozone oxidation time and temperature on the concentration of peroxides was studied. However, degradation was observed by viscosimetry and FTIR f… Show more

“…Addition of fluorinated thiols on diethyl allyl phosphonate was reported by Brondino et al [20]. The quantitative addition was carried out without any solvent in the presence of benzophenone under UV irradiation for 8 h. Addition of thiols with perfluorinated groups on dimethyl or diethyl allyl phosphonate was also performed by Jeanmaire et al [21].…”

“…However, the treatment is only effective for the partially fluorinated polymers. Brondino et al [122] investigated the effect of ozone treatment time and temperature on the concentration of peroxides formed on the PVDF surface. The results are shown in Table 4.…”

“…26 Others have also reported the chemoselective dealkylation of phosphonate esters in the presence of carboxylic acid esters; 15,18,31 however, these reports all focus on low molecular weight acrylates with only one phosphonic acid group per molecule. Previously, we have demonstrated the transformation of PG bound diethylphosphonatoethyl groups to phosphonic acids by using TMS-Br.…”

“…[4][5][6][7] Most commonly however, low molecular weight molecules carrying phosphonic acids are studied, as these form well-dened selfassembled monolayers. [14][15][16][17][18][19][20] Poly(phosphonate)s and phosphonated (meth-)acrylates are biocompatible, which permits their in vivo application for medical purposes. These phosphonates are hydrolytically more stable compared to the corresponding phosphates, since they possess a phosphorus-carbon bond.…”
