Adiabatic resonant oscillations of solar neutrinos in three generations

Abstract: The Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein model of resonant solar-neutrino oscillations is discussed for three generations of leptons. Assuming adiabatic transitions, bounds for the p-and e-neutrinos mass-squared difference are obtained as a function of the e-p mixing angle 0,. The allowed region in the A21,0-01 plot that would solve the solar-neutrino problem is shown to be substantially larger than that of the two-generation case. In particular, the difference between the two-and three-generation cases becomes signif… Show more

“…Previous work on models for three flavor neutrino oscillations in matter includes works by Barger et al [7], Kim and Sze [8], and Zaglauer and Schwarzer [9]. Our method is different from all these approaches and their parametrizations also differ slightly from ours.…”

“…We will always refer to (a) in the following, and conventionally label the mass eigenstates in the order of increasing mass (m 1 < m 2 < m 3 ). In this case, as far as solar neutrinos are concerned, the two quasidegenerate mass eigenstates ν 1 and ν 2 participate actively to matter-enhanced transitions, while the "lone" state ν 3 is a spectator neutrino that reveals its presence only through the mixing [40][41][42].…”
