“…The studies were conducted at research centres 10, 15, 16, 18, 24, 27, 3437 , hospitals 20, 28, 30, 32, 33 and universities 17, 19, 2123, 25, 26, 29, 31 in USA 17, 2024, 2729 , Australia 16, 18 , Denmark 19, 31 , Germany 10, 3437 , Mexico 25, 26 , Spain 30, 32, 33 and France 15 . Twelve studies involved people without T2DM 15, 17, 18, 21, 23, 2633 , and six were in patients with T2DM 10, 17, 22, 24, 25, 3437 . The majority (n = 13) of the studies used high AGE diets which were two or more times higher in AGE content than the low AGE diets 1, 10, 15, 1719, 2224, 2737 and the rest used high AGE diets that were less than two times higher in AGE content than the low AGE diets.…”

“…Benfotiamine, a lipid-soluble allithiamine derivative that has better intestinal absorption and improved bioavailability than thiamine, has been shown to afford postprandial benefit on vascular function following meals rich in advanced glycation end-products in T2DM. Plasma glucose levels were lowered in the benfotiamine supplemented group but not significantly in the postprandial period after and AGE meal (Stirban et al, 2006), but the effects of benfiotamine on PPG were significant after a cooked meat meal (Stirban et al, 2007). The pharmacologic effects of niacin (nicotinic acid; vitamin B3) on cholesterol lowering were first reported in 1955 (Altschul et al, 1955).…”

“…Benfothiamine is available in a proportion of at least 25%, for 8 days in tissues, much longer than water soluble thiamine [8,9]. It is very efficient in the treatment of macrovascular and microvascular endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress, in patients with diabetes mellitus and secondary complications [10,11,12].…”
