Abstract: This article discusses statements of revolt as an expression of disgust, rebel, contempt, made by commoner women towards social situations in Balinese culture presented in the novel Tarian Bumi. The novel has a Balinese culture as the setting. It discovers the struggle of commoner women, the women from the lowest caste in Balinese culture. “…In addition to omission, the term 'explicitation' in translation studies refers to the process where implicit information in the ST is made explicit in the TT. This can involve clarifying or elaborating on details that are only suggested or indirectly stated in the ST (Mahmud et al, 2021;Séguinot, 1988). Explicitation is often used to make the TT more understandable or accessible to the target audience, especially if certain elements of the source language or culture might not be readily comprehensible or familiar to them.…”

“…A translator has the right to include background information in the TT when they recognize its importance for helping target readers understand the context of unfamiliar events. Translators sometimes provide extra background information for cultural reasons, such as " to fill in a cultural gap" (Baker, 1997) (P. 288), addressing historical differences, or making implicit details more explicit (Mahmud et al, 2021) (P. 425 Additionally, having thorough background knowledge about the subject matter before translating has " a significant influence on the translation quality", as noted by Kim (Kim, 2006) (P. 328). However, this background information must be accurate and to the point because it is intended to help the target readers better understand the ST.…”

“…The most current research dealing with the use of alteration as an adjustment technique is in the translation of Qur'an where alteration is categorized as structural adjustment adopted from Anari (2009); this adjustment involves active to passive and vice versa, adjustments of tenses, singular to plural and vice versa, changes in the word levels, for example, nouns to verbs and vice versa, nouns to pronouns and vice versa (Yari & Zandian, 2022). The next previous research is about the use of alteration adjustment technique as well as other adjustment techniques specifically in the translation of statements of revolt given by commoner women in the target novel Earth Dance and alteration is the most frequently used technique compared to the other two adjustment techniques (Mahmud et al, 2022). Earlier, the previous research is about all three adjustment techniques of Nida dealing with the translation of vocabularies of religious text in handbooks and one of the results show that alteration is the highest usage in the translation (SUJATMIKO, n.d.).…”

“…Another paper analyzing paraphrasing strategy used in 'Earth Dance', an English version of 'Tarian Bumi', had the researchers concluded the linguistic units that had been paraphrased to range from words to sentences, with four paraphrasing techniques being identified, in which around 70% used a combination of paraphrasing techniques and the rest 30% used a single paraphrasing technique. They found the paraphrasing technique with the highest frequency of use to be explicative paraphrasing (either used individually or in combination), while the lowest one to be omissive paraphrasing (Mahmud et al, 2021).…”
