Administration of skin care regimens containing β‐glucan for skin recovery after fractional laser therapy: A split‐face, double‐blinded, vehicle‐controlled study

Abstract: Background: Laser therapies have brought dawn to refractory skin diseases, but also were accompanied by postlaser inflammation and skin barrier dysfunction. To recover skin function quickly, the research and development of active ingredients including β-glucan for postlaser repair have attracted much attention. Aims: To evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of skin care regimens containing β-glucan (Dermdoc®;Songyang Biotech) in repairing postlaser inflammation and skin barrier dysfunction after fractional laser… Show more

“…Cao et al discovered that β-glucan-containing skin care regimens may help heal skin inflammation and barrier function following fractional laser therapy. 20 According to the study of Natakankitkul et al, β-glucan extract from yeast waste has positive cosmeceutical qualities, such as moisture retention and skin regeneration. 21 The amount of saliva that is retained on and moistens the oral surface appears to be a critical factor in oral pain, and its decrease is related to a worsening sensation of dryness.…”

“…Fermentum β-polysaccharide is favoured by many cosmetic manufacturers for its ability to help reduce skin irritation, effectively reduce wrinkles, improve skin hydration and smoothness, promote scar healing and regeneration, etc. Fermentum β-polysaccharide has a spiral structure that is extremely insoluble in water, so the Fermentum β-polysaccharide that was first used in cosmetics was a water-insoluble solid particle, a structure suitable for use in wound healing ( Cao et al, 2021 ). In the human skin, there are dendritic cells called Langerhans cells, which are mainly located in the upper-middle layer of the epidermis.…”

“…Ideally, topical dressings following ablative laser procedures should improve and optimize the wound healing microenvironment 7 . Studies have been conducted to evaluate application of many products after laser resurfacing, including platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), 8 mesenchymal stem cell media, 9,10 oxygen emulsions, 11 fusidic acid cream, 12 Cryptomphalus aspersa , 13 and skin care regimens containing β‐glucan 14,15 . Posttreatment topical steroids have also been shown to reduce downtime but remains controversial as they may increase other side effects and potentially impact long‐term benefits of thermolysis 6,15 .…”
