“…The bluish or brownish colour of some homogeneous areas could correspond histologically to the presence of increased melanin pigment observed in some cases, the presence of haemorrhage in some cystic spaces and/or to the Tyndall phenomenon, given the cystic nature and dermal localization of the tumour [4,5]. The histopathologic correlation of white structures (including chrysalis) could be the presence of the fibrovascular or even hyalinized stroma, which is characteristic of this tumour [3,4]. A large proportion of hidradenomas appear highly vascular, even resulting occasionally in hemangiopericytoma-like areas [1] (branching vascular pattern with a staghorn configuration), which is the reason for the presence of dermoscopic vascular structures in 82% of the cases.…”

“…Dermoscopy is a non-invasive technique which has greatly improved the diagnostic accuracy of pigmented and non-pigmented skin tumours. To the best of our knowledge, only two NH cases evaluating the dermoscopy of this tumour have been published in the literature [3,4]. We consider it worthwhile communicating the dermoscopic features of a large series of NH that could improve its clinical diagnostic accuracy.…”

“…Nevertheless, they have also been observed in some adnexal tumors (angiohistiocytoma, hidradenoma, intraepidermal poroma), nodular melanoma and other thick tumors [12,13,16]. …”

“…This makes differential diagnosis with other malignant and benign skin growths particularly difficult. As shown by our single case, dermoscopy does not allow for a correct diagnosis as it reveals unspecific pattern that have been reported in a range of tumors including pyogenic granuloma, amelanotic melanoma, non-pigmented melanoma metastases or other rare adnexal tumors [59]. Further reports are needed to improve the knowledge about the clinical and dermoscopic variability of this rare tumor.…”
