Adolescent Involvement at Public Horticulture Institutions

Abstract: While public gardens typically offer educational programming for adults and elementary school–aged children, many institutions struggle with serving the teenage audience. “…However, in public children's gardens, the proportions of each target audience are at least 8.0% to 19.0% points higher than in public gardens without children's garden. The results from Purcell's study (Purcell et al, 2010), which examined education personnel at public horticultural institutions and their education programs, showed that the target audiences were adults (35.4%), children (35.2%), families (14.9%), and adolescents (8.9%). These figures are similar to the results from the present study.…”
