“…In support of this, the participants who completed the coaching sessions were not only more satisfied with the program, but had significantly higher retention, higher adherence, and spent a significantly longer time on the website. This is in line with past research, demonstrating that personal contact in a Web-based intervention improves engagement [46,47]. However, it is possible that the coaching sessions are only effective in some people, and that the coaching sessions in this study may have retained a subsample of participants who were frequent Web users and therefore familiar with video-calling software or were more motivated to begin with.…”

“…Future research should examine the ability of similar technology to screen for and address one or more of a broad range of behavioral targets, particularly in a sequential manner throughout healthcare settings. Future research should also carefully evaluate the relative strengths and weaknesses of e-SBI vs. traditional SBI, in terms of effectiveness and cost as well as reach (see Meyer et al, 2012 for an excellent example of reach analysis). Analysis of all three of these key outcomes can facilitate the all-important goal of population-wide decreases in drug use in the perinatal period.…”

“…One way to improve cost–benefit ratio is the use of a systematic proactive screening approach aiming at multiple health risk factors. Especially when combined with computer‐based counseling systems, which provide an effective and timesaving alternative to face‐to‐face counseling by physicians (Krebs, Prochaska, & Rossi, ; Meyer et al, ), it may ease implementation into routine care. Screening and intervention on multiple health risk factors is highly adequate because the majority of the adult population reports multiple health risk factors (Fine, Philogene, Gramling, Coups, & Sinha, ; John, Hanke, & Freyer‐Adam, ).…”
