Adsorption and wettability of extended anionic surfactants with different PO numbers on a polymethylmethacrylate surface

Abstract: The number of propylene oxide (PO) unit plays crucial role in controlling the wettability of surfactants on the surface of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA).

“…As powdery mildew grows, the surface of the cucumber leaf becomes more uneven, which requires more surfactant molecules to enable the spreading of pesticide droplets. For the Pyra + AEO-4 droplets, as the powdery mildew grew, an increasing number of surfactant molecules adsorbed on powdery mildew pathogens, and more molecules formed semimicelles and deposits on the surface of powdery mildew . This is equivalent to adsorption of surfactant molecules (originally located on the gas–liquid surface) by the liquid–solid interface.…”

“…The number of surfactant molecules adsorbed on cucumber powdery mildew leaves at each growth stage was greater than that of the AEO series. On cucumber powdery mildew leaves at No.2 and No.3 growth stages, there were more semimicelles formed by surfactant molecules adsorbed on the liquid–solid interface in Pyra + Silwet618 droplets than in Pyra + AEO-4 droplets . In the No.4 growth stage, due to the high complexity of the powdery mildew surface, more surfactant molecules adsorbed on the powdery mildew pathogens, and there were not enough free molecules at the gas–liquid interface, so the molecules in micelles automatically dissolved and adsorbed on the powdery mildew pathogens.…”

“…By comparing the turbidity curves of FB 1, FB 3, FB 5 and FB 2, FB 4, FB 6, it can be found that the cloud point of demulsifier reduces. This is because the PO group is the hydrophobic group, which can reduce the solubility of the aqueous solution, so the cloud point also decreases . Therefore, when the content of EO is constant, the cloud point decreases with the increase of the content of PO.…”
