Adsorption Characteristics of Metronidazole From Industrial Wastewater Onto Polyaniline Nanocomposite

Abstract: Over the past few decades, occurrence of organic micro-pollutants such as pharmaceuticals in the aquatic ecosystems has been considered as a major environmental and health issue globally. Pharmaceuticals have become chemicals of emerging concern to the public because of their potential to reach drinking water. A novel Polyaniline/humic acid (PA/AH) composite was synthesized and investigated for adsorption of Metronidazole antibiotics (MTZ) from aqueous solutions. The nature and morphology of synthesized adsorb… Show more

“…Among pharmaceutical products, AMX products have had the highest consumption. AMX is a semi-synthetic group of beta-lactam that is used against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria in wide range [ 6 , 7 ]. AMX is used as a medicine for human and veterinary applications and should be considered due to its high consumption in the world and Iran as well [ 4 , [8] , [9] , [10] ].…”

“…The release of AMX into the environment can lead to chronic dangers [ [11] , [12] , [13] ]. In order to remove antibiotics from wastewater and water, different methods are used, including advanced oxidation, adsorption, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, membrane processes, biological processes and combination processes [ 5 , 6 , [14] , [15] , [16] , [17] , [18] , [19] , [20] , [21] ]. Since the removal efficiency is low in biodegradation methods using antibiotics as a toxic substance for purifying organisms.…”
