Adsorption Isotherms of Aspartame on Commercial and Chemically Modified Divinylbenzene−Styrene Resins at Different Temperatures

Abstract: The equilibria of adsorption of aspartame in an aqueous solution on a commercial resin and three chemically modified Amberlite XAD-2 resins were measured at different temperatures within the range (0 to 35) °C. The functional groups, introduced by nucleophilic substitution in the aromatic rings of the divinylbenzene−styrene matrix, were bromine (−Br), bromoethyl (−CH2CH2Br), and chloromethyl (−CH2Cl). All of the isotherms showed a nonlinear and favorable shape with decreasing adsorption capacity as the tempera… Show more

“…The experimental equilibrium data as shown in Table 3 were fitted to the Langmuir and Freundlich models. 19,20 The adsorption behavior of NERCB 09 agreed with the Langmuir isotherm model well. Figures 1 and 2, temperature had little effect on the adsorption capacity, but adsorption capacity increased dramatically when the pH value decreased.…”

“…Table 4 exhibits the pattern that the adsorption capacity of JN-10 for the HA increases when the temperature of the solution rises. The isometric enthalpies of adsorption were calculated according to the derivative Van't Hoff equation [19]: The free energy of adsorption was calculated according to the equation [20]:…”

“…The Langmuir-Freundlich (LF) isotherm resembles the format of the Langmuir isotherm model but is modified according to the Freundlich isotherm model to satisfy the Henry's law behavior at the equilibrium adsorption of the adsorbates [35]. The Langmuir-Freundlich isotherm model often takes the following form [2,35,36],…”
