Adsorption Isotherms of Benzene and Toluene on Corn Grain-Based Carbon Monolith at (303.15, 313.15, and 323.15) K

Abstract: The adsorption isotherms of benzene and toluene on a newly made corn grain-based carbon monolith were measured at (303.15, 315.15, and 323.15) K using a gravimetric method. The Toth isotherm model was adopted to fit the adsorption equilibrium data of benzene and toluene. The Dubinin-Astakhov equation was used to calculate the total micropore volume of carbon monolith. By using the Clausius-Clapeyron equation, the surface energetic character of the carbon monolith was analyzed. The thermal desorption works were… Show more

“…The obtained adsorption capacities per adsorbent weight were found to be almost similar for the extruded monolith and granular forms of each studied clay. Nevertheless, these values remain lower than those reported for more porous adsorbents, for example, commercial silica [34] or activated carbon monoliths [15,22,35,36].…”

“…Additionally, Lillo‐Rodenas et al even adopted activated carbon fibers (ACFs) to adsorb benzene at low concentration. Balathanigaimani et al measured the adsorption isotherms of benzene on corn grain‐based carbon monolith at the temperature of 30°C, 40°C, and 50°C, and the equilibrium adsorption data fit well with the Toth isotherm model. Quite recently, Mohammed et al used coconut shell‐based porous carbon which was chemically activated with potassium hydroxide and treated with ammonia to adsorb benzene.…”
