Adsorption of Chromium (VI) onto Activated Carbon Modified with KMnO4

Abstract: Abstract:The adsorption capacity of activated carbon modified with KMnO 4 (potassium permanganate) for Cr(VI) from aqueous solution was investigated. The modified activated carbon was characterized by SEM (scanning electron microscopy), FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectrometer), and N 2 adsorption/desorption tests. Adsorption of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution onto the activated carbon was investigated in a batch system. In the present study, the effect of various parameters such as pH, contact time and ini… Show more

“…There has been research on the optimal concentration of KOH solution as activating agent for different carbon materials (Abdul Khalil et al 2013;Nagaraju et al 2016;. The research on the use of KMnO4 as activating agent was conducted on granular activated carbon (Rathnayake et al 2017) to find out the impact of the concentration of the KMnO4 solution (Pang et al 2015;Zhang et al 2017).…”

“…A KMnO4modified activated carbon was effective in adsorbing formaldehyde with a pseudo-second order rate reaction (Hu et al, 2018). At low pH, activated carbon modified with increasing KMnO4 concentrations were found to have higher percentage removal of aqueous Cr (VI) compared to the unmodified adsorbent (Pang et al, 2015). Moreover, modification of the carbon obtained from pineapple leaf fibers by potassium permanganate, increased its ferric ion removal efficiency (Mopoung and Bunterm, 2016).…”
