Adsorption of Dyes from Wastewater: A Comprehensive Review

Abstract: Because of their ubiquitous industrial usage, dyes are significant water pollutants. Adsorption is an effective method for eliminating colors from tainted water. In the twenty‐first century, industrialization is growing at a dizzying rate. During this stage, more noble colors and dyes are used. These hues contribute to a wide range of contaminants, including water, soil, and air pollution. The objective of this report is just to discuss the chemical and bio‐based adsorbents used to remove various types of indu… Show more

“…Various techniques, such as coagulation, flocculation, adsorption, membrane separation, and enhanced oxidation processes, have been employed worldwide to tackle the problem of wastewater [3][4][5][6]. Adsorption is one of the commercially viable and cost-effective methods for removing organic and inorganic pollutants from effluents [7][8][9]. However, the production of harmful secondary pollutants during the process of adsorption is a constraint of this technology [10].…”

“…However, the catalyst, usually in the form of a powder, results in unsatisfactory reuse performance, thus restricting its further application. Adsorption method can effectively separate organic micropollutant from brine, in most cases, also requires desorption and regeneration procedures, whereas photocatalytic oxidation can achieve degradation of the adsorbed organic micropollutants and regenerate the adsorption material without additional chemical regenerants 11 , 12 . Therefore, the combination of the two methods is expected to enhance removal efficiency of organic micropollutants.…”

“…The discharge of harmful organic dyes into water, food, and so on, could cause severe environmental problems and affects human health and aquatic organisms. Presently, the effective removal and detection of residual dyes are the principal methods for inhibiting dye contamination 7–10 . In terms of adsorption, adsorbent with the high capacity is regarded as a key factor in the efficient removal of dyes, while for the detection of trace dye molecules in complex samples, adsorbent with the high selectivity of separation and enrichment can effective inhibit interference from other molecules.…”

[7][8][9][10] In terms of adsorption, adsorbent with the high capacity is regarded as a key factor in the efficient removal of dyes, while for the detection of trace dye molecules in complex samples, adsorbent with the high selectivity of separation and enrichment can effective inhibit interference from other molecules. As a result, to solve the problem of dye contamination, the fabrication of new adsorbent with the superior adsorption capacity and selectivity to dyestuff identification is a matter of great practical importance.…”
