Abstract:BACKGROUND: The removal of Reactive Red 120 (RR 120) from aqueous solutions using cetylpyridinium modified Resadiye bentonite (CP-bentonite) prepared by ion exchange was investigated with particular reference to the effects of temperature, pH and ionic strength on adsorption.
“…However, the asymmetric SO 2 stretching band is located at 1302 cm −1 in the spectrum of the same sample. Weaker peaks of the functional groups of the dye rather than those of the cationic surfactant peaks indicate substitution of the anionic dye molecules by some cationic surfactant species via mainly electrostatic interactions as well as van der Waals forces [34][35][36]. “…Rh-B/UB samples (Fig. 2a) display that there are different peaks, which are large and small corresponding to the functional groups of the Rh-B in the range 1250-1650 cm À 1 compared to the raw bentonite [18]. The IR peaks appeared in the ranges of 1647-1467 cm À 1 can be based to the aromatic ring vibrations resulting from the C ¼C skeleton stretching. In addition to these bands, two characteristic peaks are observed for stretching and bending modes involving CH 3 and CH 2 alkyl groups at 2978-2928 cm À 1 and 1467-1340 cm À 1 , respectively [19].…”

“…2b and c). Moreover, the changes in the position of the ring vibrations exhibited the contribution from the π interactions occurring between the O-plane of bentonite silicate layers and Rh-B with aromatic rings lying parallel to the alumina silicate layers and tilting at a definite angle with respect to the clay surface [18].…”

“…At higher pH values the adsorbent surface gets negatively charged due to OH -ions which results in the decrease of MO percentage removal due to electrostatic repulsion. pH 2.0 is chosen throughout this study for analysis of other parameters and also for equilibrium and kinetic studies [14,15,16].…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
