Adsorption of Rhodamine B onto a yellow–brown soil: Kinetics, thermodynamics, and role of soil organic matter

Abstract: The environmental behavior of organic pollutants in soils depends on their adsorption properties onto soils. In this article, the adsorption process of Rhodamine B (RhB) from an aqueous solution onto a yellow-brown soil in Central China was studied. The isotherms and the kinetic data of the RhB adsorption onto the soil were well approached by the Freundlich isotherm model (R 2 > 0.999) and the pseudo-secondorder kinetic model (R 2 > 0.99). The adsorption process of RhB onto the soil was endothermic and increas… Show more

“…As can be seen from Table 3, both Elovich and pseudo-second-order kinetics model were suitable for describing the adsorption kinetics curves of atrazine in the three types of soil containing Cd, and the fitting effect of pseudo-second-order kinetics model was better. This suggests that the relationship between soils and atrazine was controlled by multiple mechanisms, including adsorption comprehensive control of diffusion, dissolution, mineralization, and other mechanisms (Huang and Zhang, 2015).…”

“…The additional biosorbent just provided ineffective adsorption sites. The initial heavy metal ions concentration can influence the adsorption capacity of adsorbent through a combination of factors, namely, the availability of active adsorption sites on the adsorbent and the ability of adsorption sites to combine with ions (especially under the conditions of high ions concentration) [2,26,27]. This effect leads to the decline of adsorbent utilization efficiency, which could be supported by the research of Modhed et al [24] and Krishna et al [25].…”

“…But under the condition of low Pb 21 concentration, the adsorption efficiency of PSH was higher than MCH, which was consistent with the research on the effect of W on the biosorption. The ion concentration acts as a driving force to overcome mass transfer resistance for ions transport between the liquid bulk and the solid bulk.…”
