Adsorptive recovery of palladium(ii) from aqueous solution onto cross-linked chitosan/montmorillonite membrane

Abstract: A cross-linked chitosan/montmorillonite (CCTS-M) membrane was prepared successfully with a glutaraldehyde cross-linker, and then was characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM/EDX, TG/DTG and XPS.

“…However, when mesp-CTS (or macp-CTS) was grafted to cobalt porphyrin, the peak shifted to 398.1 eV. This finding was indicative of axial coordination of lone-pair electrons from the H2Nunit to the Co ion in Co TPPS [46]. The BEs shown in shown in Table 2 correspond well with those in previous reports [47][48][49][50][51][52][53].…”

“…After covalently bonding and axially coordinating of Mn TPFPP to mCS, the binding energies (BEs) of all elements, especially those of the C, N, Cl and Mn, were changed in different degrees ( Fig. 4 and Table 3) [44][45][46] . The C 1 s binding energy (BE) for the C=C-Funit in Mn TPFPP was changed from 287.0 eV to 284.8 eV for that of Mn TPFPP/mCS.…”

“…Infrared (IR) spectra were measured on an iS50 Nicolet spectrophotometer with a resolution of 4 cm −140-43 . X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was performed on a Kratos Ultra Axis DLD spectrometer with the Al K α as an exciting source at 40 eV [44][45][46] . Energy dispersive spectra (EDS) were conducted on a S-3400 N scanning electron microscope coupled with an energy dispersive analysis detector 33 .…”

“…The chitosan/montmorillonite membrane cross-linked by glutaraldehyde possessed the maximum capacity of 193 mg/g for palladium(II) at optimum pH 2 and was able to reach adsorption equilibrium in 90-100 min. [95]. The PSf/GO MMM had the maximum adsorption capacities of 79 mg/g for Pb 2+ , 75 mg/g for Cu 2+ , 68 mg/g for Cd 2+ , 17.5 mg/g for Ni 2+ , and 154 mg/g for Cr 6+ .…”
