Adult stem-like cells in kidney

Abstract: Human pluripotent cells are promising for treatment for kidney diseases, but the protocols for derivation of kidney cell types are still controversial. Kidney tissue regeneration is well confirmed in several lower vertebrates such as fish, and the repair of nephrons after tubular damages is commonly observed after renal injury. Even in adult mammal kidney, renal progenitor cell or system is reportedly presents suggesting that adult stem-like cells in kidney can be practical clinical targets for kidney diseases… Show more

“…(Shimazui et al, 2000) (Sagrinati et al, 2006, Kim et al, 2011, Lu et al, 2015, Schmelzer et al, 2007. This supports the idea of a core molecular programme responsible for maintenance of tissue resident stem/progenitor cells (Furuyama et al, 2011, Watt, 2014, Hishikawa et al, 2015. Our data also highlight the important species-specific differences that exist, which likely have led to such confusion in the field.…”

“…For example, Benign's animal experiments in Munich Wistar Frömter rats have provided evidence that ACEI induces renal repair by modulating renal progenitor cell proliferation and migration and restoring the glomerular architecture. According to previous biophysiological studies, regression of glomerulosclerosis and neoformation of glomerular tissue is linked to progenitor/stem cells of renal or extrarenal origin, and a population of progenitor cells within the glomerular capsule has been found in human adult kidney . Many RCTs and observational studies have also provided evidences that ACEIs/ARBs use can slow the progression of CKD and reduce the risk of common morbidities and mortality .…”
