Advanced health biotechnologies in Thailand: redefining policy directions

Abstract: BackgroundThailand faces a significant burden in terms of treating and managing degenerative and chronic diseases. Moreover, incidences of rare diseases are rising. Many of these—such as diabetes, cancer, and inherited inborn metabolic diseases—have no definite treatments or cure. Meanwhile, advanced health biotechnology has been found, in principle, to be an effective solution for these health problems.MethodsQualitative approaches were employed to analyse the current situation and examine existing public pol… Show more

“…Perceived fatigue may be variable both within (55) and between (56) days in people with MS. Of the most common measures from studies included in this meta-analysis, the MFIS asks “how much of a problem fatigue has caused them during the past month, including the day of testing” (15). The FSS is not anchored by a time period and instead asks for “agreement” with items regarding fatigue (14), although it is sometimes “based on the previous week” (57).…”

“…This overexpression is correlated with poor overall survival and lung metastasis-free survival in patients with invasive ductal carcinomas as well as reduced relapse-free survival in patients with ER+ breast cancer (14,16). ACKR3 overexpression has also been confirmed in 45% of esophageal squamous cell carcinomas (7) and 60% of LUSC with undetectable expression in adjacent normal lungs. In patients with lung cancer, this overexpression is correlated with advanced stage, lymphatic invasion and poor survival rates (17,18).…”

“…Patients whose tumors contain TLT may be better positioned to respond to this novel class of agents, since their tumors can support trafficking of TIL. Many features of the immune contexture in tumors are being investigated for their relationship to therapeutic response [9], and the findings of Di Caro, et al, support the inclusion of TLT as one of these features.…”

“…Additionally, the current Immunoscore focuses on the host’s adaptive immune response to tumor, and does not include features of potential adaptive immune resistance by tumor, such as PD-L1 expression, which could protect tumors from immune destruction [8]. Other important practical considerations include how best to characterize the local immune milieu within tumors, i.e., with routine hematoxylin and eosin review of TIL grade [8, 12], by immunohistochemical analysis of immune cell subsets and presence of TLT [2,4,5], or molecularly using gene expression signatures [4,9]. Thresholds will have to be determined as well as standardized methods for quantification that translate across institutions.…”
