Advancements in research and development to combat COVID-19 using nanotechnology

Abstract: The whole world is currently facing a global health crisis due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic caused by SARS coronavirus 2, which started in Wuhan City, China, in December 2019. The pandemic has affected 235 countries, areas or territories and infected over 42 million people across the globe as per WHO update on 27 October 2020. More than 1.1 million people have died and the numbers are increasing daily. However, some drugs have been authorized for emergency treatment of patients, medication an… Show more

“…One of the most important techniques for prevention against viruses is the use of face masks, as it is crucial for both the infected and non-infected individuals to prevent virus transmission. Various textile products are used for the preparation of facemasks coated with nanoparticles with antiviral properties [ 38 ].…”

“…This further strengthen the conductivity measurements, which suggest the application of fabricated samples for reducing gas sensing. Such high conductivites of synthesized nanocomposites can be attributed to their semi‐crystalline nature due to use of MO during synthesis 40,42,43 and presence of silver.…”

“…To date, there is no medicine/drug that has been proved to be effective in treating COVID-19. The only hope now is in the success of the emergencyapproved vaccines [12,13]. The early diagnosis of COVID-19 may help control the spread of the pandemic [14][15][16].…”
