Advances and Applications of Nano-antimicrobial Treatments

Abstract

His research activities mainly focus on the development of innovative techniques for the production of advanced biomaterials and the analysis of their chemical-physical and biological properties. Moreover, other research topics include textile materials with improved absorption properties obtained by the introduction of superabsorbent hydrogels, antibacterial and selfcleaning treatments and advanced ceramics for aerospace applications. He is a Lecturer in Cell-Tissues Interactions and Lecturer of Biomedical Engineering Principles, within the Department of Engineering for Innovation, at the University of Salento. Mauro Pollini has been involved in many national and international research projects collaborating with centers of excellence and leading companies operating in the biomedical field. He is the supervisor of many undergraduate and PhD students as well as postdoctoral fellow researchers. He is also the co-founder of three start-up companies: Silvertech, operating in the field of silver based antibacterial treatments; CareSilk, working on silk-based products for biomedical and cosmetic applications; and BF2, developing innovative approaches in cancer therapies.
