Advances in Schmallenberg Virus Research: A Review

Abstract: After the emergence of the Bluetongue virus serotype eight (BTV-8), which was unexpected, in 2006 in northern Europe, another Bunyaviridae family, referred to as the Schmallenberg virus (SBV) also emerged in 2011 in Europe resulting to a new disease in ruminants which proved to be economically significant.
