Advances in self-assembled ultrathin polyoxomolybdates multilayers

Abstract: The research on the assembly and function of organized molecular films has gained more and more interest. Electrostatic interactions can be employed to assemble polyoxomolybdates in surface confined multilayers. Ultrathin multilayer films of polyoxomolybdates and organic molecules by the self-assembly method have been reviewed. At the same time, self-assemblies in aqueous solution are also reported, such as wheel-shaped clusters (Mo 154 ), hollow spherical "blackberry"-like vesicles (Mo 72 Fe 30 ) and Keggin s… Show more

“…5,6 Among all their properties, the ability for reversible multi-valence reductions, leading to the formation of mixed-valence species, is extremely important as it brings about favorable electrocatalytic properties with regard to several asserted electrochemical processes. 7 Polyoxotungstates and polyoxomolybdates have been extensively used as electrocatalysts. 5 Nevertheless, the electrocatalytic performances of the parent Keggin polyanions have been considerably more studied than the polyoxovanadates.…”

“…Polyoxometalates (POMs) are a type of compounds formed by bulky clusters of transition metal oxide anions and have gained increasing interest due to their application in a variety of scientific fields. They present themselves as attractive building blocks employed in the construction of functional materials with potential electrocatalytical applications and use in molecular electronic science and in the design of electo-optical devices. , Among all their properties, the ability for reversible multi-valence reductions, leading to the formation of mixed-valence species, is extremely important as it brings about favorable electrocatalytic properties with regard to several asserted electrochemical processes .
