“…Several types of MSCs, such as BM-MSC and adipose tissue-derived stem cells are capable of differentiation into endothelial cells, cavernous smooth muscle cells and neurons. This latter ability of SCs has been used with positive effects to treat ED in animal models [23,24].…”

“…damage. There is a lack of evidence of engraftment or even differentiation of the cells in vivo [3] and mounting evidence suggests stem cell mediated repair by paracrine effect rather than stem cell differentiation [4]. In vivo findings suggest a paracrine mechanism being responsible for the regeneration, as treatment with ADRC-lysate alone improves EF in a rat nerve crush injury model [5].…”

“…A recent article by Soebadi et al [7] published in 2016 summarized all of2017-01-03 these studies. These authors described the many preclinical trials that have provided data on the utilization of both bone marrow stem cells and adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) for ED.…”

“…In acute ED models, the mechanism of action of stem cells is presumed to be by paracrine action [373839]. In contrast, in chronic ED, the theoretical method of stem cell action is postulated to be both engraftment and cellular differentiation [7]. However, the exact mechanism of action of stem cells in chronic ED remains uncertain [40].…”
