Advances in synchronous machines

Abstract: This presentation describes achievements in turbo generator technology and gives an outlook into a dynamic future. Turbine evolution in a competitive environment has always been driving the generator development. The race in gig watt unit rating is history. The field of competition with independent designs has narrowed over the past.

“…The synchronous machine is one of the most important models in power plant training simulators. There have been several approaches for the development of synchronous machine models: phase coordinates models [1], artificial neural network models [2], [3] and finite-element models [4]. In the past, computational power was an important limitation, and transformed models, often referred to as d-q-0, or Park transformation, were the only practical way to model a synchronous machine.…”

“…In evaporative cooling technique self-circulation can be performed, which would decrease the loss of cooling system and improve the efficiency of generator [3]. The coolant is insulating liquid.…”

“…Initial installed costs for hydrogen and water cooling generators and supporting auxiliaries are typically higher than for air cooling generators, and future costs of operating these auxiliaries are not negligible. So customers tend to choose new cooling generator, and many manufacturers also attend to research new cooling generator recently [2]. Combined the superiorities of evaporative cooling technology and air cooling technology, we studied the turbo generator with evaporative cooling stator and water cooling rotor.…”
