Advancing Experimentation-as-a-Service Through Urban IoT Experiments

Abstract: Smart cities are becoming a vibrant application domain for a number of science fields. As such, service providers and stakeholders are beginning to integrate co-creation aspects into current implementations to shape the future smart city solutions. In this context, holistic solutions are required to test such aspects in real city-scale IoT deployments, considering the complex city ecosystems. In this work, we discuss OrganiCity's implementation of an Experimentation-as-a-Service framework, presenting a toolset… Show more

“…In a similar way, the Fed4Fire [20] and Fiesta [21] projects present some similarities with symbIoTe, since they addresses a uniform access to the underlying IoT infrastructures, but they are rather focused on Experimentation-as-a-Service (EaaS). In this realm, OrganiCity project [22], [23] is probably the most featured one, since it provides a wide range of tools to foster service co-creation, embracing all the stakeholder involved in urban services. SoCiotal project [24], similar to OrganiCity, puts the focus on citizens, developing an environment that allows them to control their IoT devices.…”

“…Another example is the OrganiCity project [4,58] which delivered an implementation of an Experimentation as a Service framework, including a toolset that allowed developing, deploying and evaluating smart city solutions. The proposed services, among others, addressed the issue of access to open data.…”
