Advancing research on teams and team effectiveness in implementation science: An application of the Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment (EPIS) framework

Abstract: Background Effective teams are essential to high-quality healthcare. However, teams, team-level constructs, and team effectiveness strategies are poorly delineated in implementation science theories, models, and frameworks (TMFs), hindering our understanding of how teams may influence implementation. The Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment (EPIS) framework is a flexible and accommodating framework that can facilitate the application of team effectiveness approaches in implementation science. … Show more

“…Context-mechanism-outcome framework Today, interest in understanding which team interventions are most effective has grown, with an increasing number of studies providing a comprehensive overview of the types of team-level interventions available (Shuffler et al, 2018) or exploring potential process aspects that can enhance the success of these interventions (Klaic et al, 2020;McGuier et al, 2023;Nyfoudi et al, 2023). However, the contextual aspects in which these team Digital coaching interventions take place seem to have been underestimated despite a growing body of literature emphasising the role of these factors in either facilitating or even disrupting the implementation of the intervention, ultimately influencing the desired changes (Roodbari et al, 2023).…”

“…Increasingly, the evaluation of the effectiveness of such interventions focuses on process-oriented aspects that can initiate change or achieve the desired impact, according to the Input-Mediators-Outcome framework (McGuier et al , 2023). However, a research gap exists regarding the contextual factors that influence the effectiveness of digital team training programs.…”
