Advantages of new materials in fascia transversalis reinforcement for inguinal hernia repair

Abstract: This study has shown that DCFM has the same short-term efficacy in hernia treatment as the standard PPM, with a reduction in postoperative pain and analgesic use, and a decrease in overall postoperative complications. In the rat model, DCFM resulted in milder inflammatory response and thicker fibrous plate than the PPM. Further biomechanical testing and longer follow-up is necessary, but initial results are promising.

“…11 The mean±SD of patients Age in our study was 47.85±14.85 in control group and 50.78±15.18 in study group. This is in comparision with previous studies like Arslani et al 12 Conducted in year 2010 with a mean age of 52.3±13.9, Paajanen et al 13 Conducted in year 2011 with a mean age of 53±15. Thus, the present study corroborates with all the above studies.…”

“…For duration of operation, the asymmetry in the funnel plot stemmed primarily from the paper by Torcivia and colleagues; removal of this study did not influence the significance of the pooled effect. Similarly, removal of the two smaller studies with reported larger effect sizes for chronic pain after 3–6 months did not change the significance. Further sensitivity analyses were performed for all outcomes by removing each study with the lowest risk of bias scores separately; they did not change the significance level of any of the mean differences.…”

“…Four studies (772 patients) investigating pooled early chronic pain after 3–6 months were included in the meta‐analysis. Early chronic pain occurred significantly less often with glue mesh fixation: RR 0·52 (0·31 to 0·87) ( I 2 = 4 per cent; P = 0·01) ( Fig .…”

“…The cesarean sectional scar healed without large scar defects. TachoSil has been used for the sealing of anastomoses [9] and in hernia repair [10], and, as evidenced by other studies, it does not seem to compromise scar formation.…”
