Aeca and Anca in Patients With Premature Atherosclerosis

Abstract: ANCA does not seem to play a major role in premature atherosclerosis. Whether elevated levels of AECA in ANCA-positive patients with premature atherosclerosis reflect more extended vascular disease remains to be determined.

“…Recent findings support the idea that oxLDL and b2GPI form complexes and during atherosclerotic events antibodies are formed against these complexes [1]. Other autoantibodies, such as antiendothelial cell antibodies (AECA), anti-cholesterol antibodies (ACHA) have been described to be players in the development of endothelial damage and atherosclerosis [1,[15][16][17][18][19].…”

“…Increased numbers of CEC detached from vessel wall due to a variety of factors related to endothelial damage, such as oxidative stress, infectious agents, cytokines, proteases [36], antiendothelial cell antibodies [37], and disturbed flow-induced p53 and ERK5 SUMOylation [38]. It is not known clearly whether CEC are proinflammatory [39].…”

“…Animal studies may be required in established models of hypertension to look more closely at the links between structure, function, and local as well as circulating AECA composition. The limitation of the relatively small numbers is known, but this sample size is broadly similar to the number of patients studied in previous works [27].…”
