Aerial thermography from low-cost UAV for the generation of thermographic digital terrain models

Abstract: Aerial thermography is performed from a low−cost aerial vehicle, copter type, for the acquisition of data of medium−size areas, such as neighbourhoods, districts or small villages. Thermographic images are registered in a mosaic subsequently used for the generation of a thermographic digital terrain model (DTM). The thermographic DTM can be used with several purposes, from classification of land uses according to their thermal response to the evaluation of the building prints as a function of their energy perf… Show more

“…In summary, the method proposed in this paper is easy to operate and suitable for researchers in different fields, and its data are relatively accurate and fast to collect [28][29][30]. Furthermore its cost is lower than the UAV equipped with infrared cameras [31][32][33]. The 3D thermal images generated can provide visualization of the building layout, surrounding environments and other construction elements, but also simply output surface temperatures at selected points.…”

“…Smaller and lighter sensors are becoming available year by year as payloads for UAVs. Such UAV imaging platforms can be applied to many sectors, for example, in precision agriculture (Candiago et al 2015), thermography and energetic efficiency evaluation (Lagüela et al 2015), geodetic measurements (Eling et al 2015), forestry (Torresan et al 2017) and hydromorphometry (Demarchi et al 2016).…”

“…Regularne monitorowanie może prowadzić do znacznych oszczędności i usunięcia wad na wczesnym etapie. W przypadku niektórych budynków, oprócz indywidualnej oceny ich efektywności energetycznej i kontroli dachu, dostępność informacji termowizyjnej pozwala uzyskać przestrzenne dane lokalizacji budynku niezbędne do całkowitego pomiaru wydajności [12].…”
