Aesthetic approach for anterior teeth with enamel hypoplasia

Abstract: Enamel hypoplasia is a developmental defect of the enamel that is produced by a disturbance in the formation of the organic enamel matrix, clinically visible as enamel defects. Disorders that occur during the stages of enamel development and maturation reduce the amount or thickness of the enamel, resulting in white spots, tiny grooves, depressions and fissures in the enamel surface. The complexity and intensity of the dental deformity lesions will conduct the ideal treatment-associating conservative technique… Show more

“…Dentists and patients are fortunate at this particular time of interest in esthetic dentistry, since there are many materials and procedures available to patients and more are being developed all the time. 10 In the case reported here, the intrusive orofacial trauma to the primary left incisor that occurred when the patient was 32 months of age likely disturbed the crown formation and enamel matrix of the underlying permanent tooth, and caused changes in its colour and shape. White discoloration is caused by the accelerated mineral deposition that result from trauma during the maturation stage of enamel development, whereas yellow-brown discoloration is caused by the incorporation of hemoglobin products from bleeding in the periapical area and enamel hypoplasia is caused by the destruction of ameloblasts in the active enamel epithelium.crowns has been performed although some cases exhibit pulpal or coronal anatomic features that prevent reshaping and require surgical removal with prosthetic replacement.…”

“…On some occasions, hypoplasia is mistaken for fluorosis; however, EH is an incomplete or defective formation in the organic matrix of the enamel, triggered by diseases, systemic disorders, trauma, and infections in the pulp of deciduous teeth. [14] Various treatment protocols may be performed, depending on the level of involvement, and the severity of the lesions. Usually, these approaches include enamel microabrasion, esthetic conservative restorations and dental whitening.…”

“…Usually, these approaches include enamel microabrasion, esthetic conservative restorations and dental whitening. [14,15] Composite resin restorations are fully capable of reproducing the appearance of a natural tooth with highly esthetic outcomes. [16] Most defects in enamel are cosmetic rather than functional.…”

“…La hipoplasia de esmalte es un defecto estructural del tejido dental, que compromete la alteración de la morfología, el color y la translucidez del diente (1,5,7). Existen varias causas relacionadas con la aparición de este tipo de lesiones, como, problemas sistémicos, ambientales, hereditarios o de origen idiopático (1).…”
