Aesthetics and Survival of Immediately Restored Implants in Partially Edentulous Anterior Maxillary Patients

Abstract: This retrospective study was undertaken to determine survival rates and aesthetic outcomes of immediate placement of multiple implants at anterior maxilla sites. One hundred and eighteen implants placed in 39 patients (21 women and 18 men; average age 58.3 years) were immediately restored (24-72 h after placement). Aesthetic assessment, radiographic bone loss, and biological and prosthetic complications were evaluated. Data collection between 12 and 84 months (mean 32.2 ± 18) after final prosthetic installatio… Show more

“…Most patients with a failing dentition express the desire to undergo a treatment protocol that involves immediate implant placement and restoration because discomfort, treatment time, and cost are reduced. Moreover, it eliminates the need for a transitional removable prosthesis and preserves the height and width of the residual alveolar ridge [ 8 , 9 ].…”

“…For immediate implant placement the anterior mandible proves to be a favorable site for reasons like adequate bone quantity and quality, narrower and shorter tooth sockets than the osteotomy which helps in stabilization of bone beyond the sockets. 9 In anterior mandibular site there is less potential of nerve damage as the inferior alveolar nerve doesnot course in between the mandibular foramina.…”

“…8 The patient was then instructed to follow a intake of soft diet consisting of high nutrient value and postoperative medications like Augmentin and zerodol SP and Pantop D advised for 5 to 7 days, along with a mouth wash, chlorhexidine gluconate (0.2%) twice a day for a week. 9 The patient was recalled for the postoperative follow up for suture removal after a week following the surgery and then called for subsequent follow-ups at their month, six months, and twelve-month respectively.…”

“…For these reasons, early and immediate implant placement into fresh extraction sockets 5‐7 and immediate restoration 6‐8 have become widely accepted protocols, demonstrating long‐term success rates that are comparable to traditional delayed implant protocols 4‐8 . In addition, post‐extraction bone and soft‐tissue resorption can be limited or even prevented through immediate implant placement and restoration 9,10 . Significantly shortened treatment time, fewer surgeries, and immediate esthetic rehabilitation are some of the key advantages of these protocols from a patient perspective.…”
