African Eyes on the Sky: The Southern African Large Telescope

Abstract

Abstract. A 10-metre class telescope project on African soil is ending its commissioning period and is transitioning to science mode. We present the current status of the Southern African Large Telescope and its instruments. We will also briefly discuss the SALT capabilities for extragalactic astronomy in particular.
