In 2018, the SAGE journal Memory Studies and the Memory Studies Association (MSA) established the Memory Studies First Book Award to honour the best first monograph by an MSA member published in English. Recognising the interdisciplinary aspect of the field of memory studies, nominations of monographs were encouraged from any of the numerous sub-disciplines and related fields such as cultural memory, collective memory, social memory, memory politics, trauma studies, memory and transitional justice, memory and witnessing, memory and oral history or memory and critical heritage.
